Our Social Responsibility

SMART is a successful company. And of course it's crucially important to us to keep it that way. But profit isn't the be-all and end-all. We believe that 'business' should give something back – try and make a difference if at all possible.

That's why we are involved with the international charity Plan . It's is a humanitarian organisation, centred on the needs of children. It works in 62 countries, on projects and initiatives that address the causes of poverty and its consequences.

The Essandohkurom School Project

We helped raise the £17k necessary to build a new school in Essandohkurom – a rural area of Ghana, where educational provision for children is depressingly rare. Despite a number of trials and tribulations along the way, the school is now complete and provides a clean, safe environment for 150 children. Find out more.

The Sangara School Project

Mvuti village is situated in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania . This is a poverty stricken district with high levels of unemployment and the constant spectre of aids providing a challenging background. Our goal was to help raise £89k to build a new school, with a dormitory and a toilet block. Success with this project meant improved educational prospects of over 300 students, and also led to the creation of vital jobs within the local community. Find out more.
